A Stage Meets Screen Salute to Louis Armstrong
On Sunday, February 23rd at 3pm in the Woodstock Town Hall, live music, rare archival film and voiceovers of Armstrong interweave in a heartfelt celebration of Armstrong. David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Eternity Band will be joined by local jazz luminaries Fred Haas and Michael Zsoldos and the Woodstock High School Jazz Ensemble and SpeakChorus to keep playing forward the music and spirit of Louis Armstrong. A Red Beans and Rice-ly Yours New Orleans dinner, hosted by Interplay Jazz and Arts, will follow the performance and include Armstrong’s recipe for his favorite dish. Jazz Revolutionaries Weekend starts Friday, Feb 21 with two free events. At 5:00 pm In the Norman Williams Library, “The Revolution that was Louis Armstrong” Esteemed jazz scholar, Dan Morgenstern demonstrates Armstrong’s innovative genius and profound impact on American music. At 7PM: Red, Black and Green Revolutionary Acoustic Tour, First Universalism Church, Barnard. A sixteen-piece band, brought to Barnard by BarnArts, performs the music of two jazz composers and innovators at the other end of jazz spectrum, Cal Massey and Fred Ho. Visit www.barnarts.org.
